Routine Appointments

Highgate Group Practice operates an appointment system to see both the doctors and the nurses. Each appointment is 12 minutes long. Appointments can be booked with our doctors, nurses and HCA up to 1 week in advance and are released every day at 08:30am.

PLEASE NOTE: The week commencing  22nd August until 26th August there will be no Routine Appointments due to staff absences.

Please note:

  1. Registered patients aged 16 – 75 who have not been seen for three years are encouraged to request a consultation.
  2. Registered patients aged over 75 years who have not been seen in the previous 12 months are encouraged to request a consultation. (If you are unable to attend the surgery for these checks because of your medical condition, a home visit may be arranged.)

For all other appointments eg smear tests, travel clinics, diabetic clinics, nurses appointments etc, please call reception.

Translation Service – There is a telephone translation service available. Please ask at reception if you require this service.

Emergency Appointments

There is a duty doctor surgery in the morning and the evening each day for patients with medical problems which must be seen on the same day. Each appointment is for ten minutes and is for the immediate problem only and not for requesting results or repeat prescriptions. Morning appointments are released at 8.00am and afternoon appointments are released at 1:00pm.

Which Doctor?

The doctors prefer to see their own patients, subject to availability, as they do like to get to know them. We, therefore, encourage you to see the same doctor for the same problem if possible.

Sometimes problems take longer to sort out than expected or a doctor may be called out on an emergency. We will make every effort to keep you informed of delays and we appreciate your patience and understanding as this situation can be stressful for all concerned.

Late Arrival

If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for an appointment the receptionists will ask the reason and let the doctor know. You may be seen, asked to wait until the end of surgery or to re-book your appointment as requested by your doctor.

Appointment DNAs – Did not attend

Due to an increase in the number of wasted appointments through patients failing to attend without informing the surgery, it has become necessary to implement the following policy: HGP DNA policy. If you fail to attend for 3 appointments you may be removed from this practice list and have to find an alternative doctor.

If you cannot attend your appointments for any reason please let us know as soon as possible, we can then offer the appointment to someone else.

Polio booster vaccination
All children in London aged one to nine are to be offered a polio booster vaccination in coming weeks, following an announcement by the NHS and UKHSA.

The NHS England (Not our Practice) will soon be in touch if your child is within this age group, to tell you how and when they will be able to get their vaccination. Please do not contact health services about polio boosters at this stage, as staff are very busy setting up this vaccination programme. You can find general information on polio vaccination here

Our practice has send information for walk in clinics for 6 to 9 year old children who are eligible for the extra supplementary Polio Booster:

Meanwhile, if your child has fallen behind with their routine programme of vaccinations (not including this polio booster), please urgently get in contact with our Practice so that they can get protected as soon as possible (please request to book a nursing vaccination appointment)

Please follow the link to see information about vaccinations and when to have them:
